Abstract

The present research aimed to identify the scenario of primary syphilis in pregnant women in the state of Piauí and to know the profile of the affected women, since the literature points to primary syphilis with a high prevalence in pregnant women, thus, the problem pointed out for this study is based on in the relationship between the decline or increase in the number of cases in the period between 2019 and 2021, corresponding to the period of social isolation and post pandemic. Design: This is a retrospective descriptive epidemiological study, based on data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) and the Health Department of the State of Piauí (SESAPI), in addition to data from other realities in other states Brazilians. Results: It was concluded that the state of Piauí had a growing numerology of cases of primary syphilis in pregnant women until the year 2019, in which, after this, there was a decreasing curve in the numbers until the year 2021, a fact attributed to underreporting linked to social isolation in the period. Implications: it was not possible to define whether there was a real decrease in cases or whether it is a situation of notifications, triggered by the concentrated efforts of the health services to control the public health situation that the country and the world found themselves in a pandemic period.
