Abstract

The objetive of this research is to identify scientific evidence in the literature on the quality of life and health of sarcopenic elderly people based on articles that used Sarqol measurement. Methods: this is integrative study, the search was carried out in February 2023 in the PUBMED database and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) based on the combination of the following descriptors: sarcopenia: quality of life:aged; SARQOL questionnaire with the Boolean operator AND for the combination of the search strategy: sarcopenia and quality of life and elderly and SARQOL questionnaire. Only articles published between 2012 and 2023, available in full in English or Portuguese, were included. Results: 11 studies  met the selection criteria. Most of them required that SarQoL® is valid for clinical and research application, although presented delimited. One of the studies indicated that the experimenter has good sensitivity to changes over time. The results also associate dimensions of the quality of life of the elderly surveyed by the instrument with muscle mass and function and nutritional status. Conclusion: it is possible to assess the impact on the quality of life of sarcopenic elderly people measured from the trained SarQoL®, although the instrument still has a limitation capacity. In addition, there is a need for further studies, including longitudinal studies, to assess the instrument's sensitivity to changes and define the causal relationships of compatible associations, generating better understanding and a greater basis for possible therapeutic interventions.
