SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION ABOUT AYAHUASCA ON THE WEB OF SCIENCE: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

Abstract

The present work aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis of the scientific production on ayahuasca available on the Web of Science, covering the period from 1966 to 2023. The intention was to examine how, over the years, ayahuasca has been approached as an object of scientific studies in different areas of knowledge, identifying the most recurrent categories, co-authorship networks, the countries that have published the most research and analyzing the developments of the continuous scientific production on ayahuasca on a global scale. The recovered works demonstrate the growing interest of the scientific community in studying the biomedical properties of ayahuasca, also addressing anthropological issues, such as the use of ayahuasca in a religious context. It was possible to observe the leading role of Brazil and federal public universities as a reference in publications on the subject.
