Abstract

Not all regions are able to promote their development in a lasting and permanent way, as is the case of the State of Pará. Given this, the present study aims to present a diagnosis of the level of modernization of agriculture in the micro-regions of Pará, estimating the Index of Agricultural Modernization (IMA) and its determining factors in the period from 1995/1996 to 2017, through the application of factor analysis, which consists of a multivariate statistical technique to investigate patterns between certain variables in order to summarize them into a smaller number of factors . It was possible to verify that the evolution of modernization occurred in all micro-regions analyzed between 1995/1996 and 2017, but in a heterogeneous way. Between 1995/1996 and 2006 the rise occurred more significantly in the Northeast and Southeast portions of the state, supported by the logistical infrastructure and the growth in grain production, especially in the Paragominas region. The State of Pará, over the years, despite making significant progress in terms of agricultural modernization, has still not been able to promote its development in a continuous and permanent manner throughout its entire area, this is reflected in the high coefficient of variation resulting from the IMA.
