Abstract
The incidence of falls in the elderly represents a growing concern due to the significant impacts on the health and quality of life of this population. In this context, the proactive action of the physiotherapist plays a crucial role in preventing falls, aiming not only to reduce injuries, but also to promote the autonomy and well-being of the elderly. This study's main objective is to highlight the fundamental role of physiotherapists in promoting safety and preventing falls in the elderly. Furthermore, we seek to highlight the importance of individualized assessment and the development of specific exercise programs, adapted to the needs of each elderly person, as a preventive measure. The discussion focuses on the relevance of physiotherapeutic intervention as a preventive measure, considering not only the curative approach, but also health promotion and disease prevention. The analysis will address the effectiveness of personalized exercise programs, balance and coordination techniques, and muscle strengthening strategies. In addition, aspects related to patient education on preventive, environmental and behavioral measures will be discussed.
