TRANSCENDING OBSTACLES: CHALLENGES IN THE JOB MARKET FOR THE TRANS POPULATION IN ARIQUEMES-RO
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research investigates the challenges faced by the trans population in accessing the formal job market in the city of Ariquemes, Rondônia. To achieve this objective, semi-structured interviews were conducted with four individuals who are in the process of or have already completed gender transition. Participants were selected through online forms disseminated at some institutions and within the local community. A key limitation of the research is the low number of participants, which highlights an important research finding: the obstacles affecting this population. Refusal to participate in the interview may be related to fears of revealing one’s identity, experiencing transphobic attacks, and concerns about privacy and security. The data collected from the interviews were analyzed using Bardin’s content analysis methodology. The results point to the significant vulnerability of this population, including the transphobia encountered during job application processes, discrimination within the workplace by both colleagues and clients, and the lack of public policies providing support and protection for this population.
