Abstract

The growth and development of cities has caused numerous changes and difficulties in city planning, making it difficult to search for compatibility between natural and built space. The objective of this study was to make a diagnosis of the tree planting in the squares of the Três Andares neighborhood, Teresina-PI, confronting the present infrastructure. In the study, tokens were use for quantification of tree and shrub individuals, in which they evaluated the plant health, permeable area, total height, need for pruning and the relationship of these characteristics with urban equipment present in three squares of the neighborhood. There were 56 individuals, distributed in 14 species. In Mª Lourdes Rêgo Square 70% of the individuals are exotic, while in the remaining squares, this percentage is less than 50%. These results are worrying, given that high percentages of exotic species in urban afforestation are not recommend. In the three squares, most individuals are in good phytosanitary condition and with height less than six meters. Regarding the compatibility between afforestation and infrastructure, it was observe that few individuals have any conflict relationship, with a balanced relationship between the parties, with few adjustments. The physical structures of the squares, despite being endowed with essential elements to the space, still need improvement mainly regarding the identification plates, lighting, structure of the sidewalks and adequacy of the vegetation.
