Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge, the occurrence of accidents and the factors associated with adherence to biosecurity measures between manicurists / pedicurists in the municipality of Jaru-RO. Method: This is a descriptive study, conducted from January to July 2019, conducted with 30 professionals, divided into two groups: group A (N = 15, autonomous manicure and pedicure) and B (N = 15, manicurists and pedicurists working in beauty salons). Results: Regarding adherence and knowledge of the standard precautionary norms, it was obtained a satisfactory result regarding hand hygiene, however, when observing the responses directed to the Personal Protective Equipment, it was noted that 27.7% of the interviewed use this equipment during aesthetic procedures. Regarding vaccination status, 80% of respondents had a vaccine card, but only 30% received the correct dose of hepatitis B vaccine and 50% had the updated tetanus vaccine. This data is extremely worrying, since in this work sector, the risk of contamination is very high. When groups A and B were compared in terms of adherence and knowledge, it was found that group B had greater adherence and knowledge about standard precautions. Conclusion: Through these data, there is a need for public policies focusing on workers' health, as well as health education actions aimed at this category, in order to minimize occupational accidents and cross-contamination.
