Abstract

transmission of the new coronavirus Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19) from person to person, to different countries, areas or territories, has generated intense concern among researchers and in the general population. To date, almost 4 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been reported worldwide, with almost 270 thousand associated deaths (fatality rate close to 7%). Aiming to provide important information about the new coronavirus, to assist the scientific community and guide the general population, a literature review was elaborated from information collected in the Pubmed database, on the ScienceDirect platform, and specifically in the Nature Research scientific magazine and in the Journals The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Medical Virology, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), as well as in the BioRxiv and MedRxiv repositories and different international health agencies. As investigated, studies regarding therapeutic interventions to be considered against SARS-CoV-2 are still recent, as well as there is a need for further investigations regarding the pathogenicity and transmissibility of this virus, as well as its effects on children, pregnant women, and animals.
