HUMANIZATION IN THE CARE PROCESS FOR HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE NURSING TEAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Humanization refers to the act of seeing others as unique individuals, with their own needs and choices, pointing us in the direction of being understanding and kind. Considering the above, nursing plays a crucial role in care by assisting patients from the moment they are admitted to the hospital until they are discharged, in hospital management, and in human resources administration. This is a mixed-method study that aimed to investigate the understanding of nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing technicians regarding the process of humanization of hospitalized patients, considering the care and management of nursing services, attentive to the level of satisfaction of the research participants with a focus on work activities; the quality of the workplace infrastructure; the relationship between the institution's employees and their managers; satisfaction with salary and benefits; and evaluation of the care provided to hospitalized patients at the unit. The sample consisted of 30 employees from the nursing team of a university hospital who perform nursing care and administrative activities. Of the 30 participants, 27 were female (89%); 20 (66.7%) were nursing technicians, and most of the male participants were nurses (66.7%); when asked if they considered their work activities to be tiring, 27 (90%) reported that they feel reasonably satisfied; regarding the quality of infrastructure, 26 (86.6%) commented that they feel partially satisfied; regarding the relationship between the institution's employees and their managers, 20 (66.6%) feel partially satisfied with problem solving and the use of ethics; regarding salary and benefits, 24 (80%) feel partially dissatisfied, and 27 (90%) reported that they would feel reasonably satisfied if they received the same care they provide to the hospitalized patients they assist. From the qualitative analysis, it was possible to note that they understand the humanization process provided to hospitalized patients by highlighting the need for humanization in the nursing team's work process, as described in the National Humanization Policy. For future studies, it is recommended to expand the study sample, given that this is one of the limitations of the present research, including suggestions from research participants in order to value their role in the process of providing humanized care to hospitalized patients.
